Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service's Chief Fire Officer Paul Fuller CBE died this week following a short illness. He had been in charge of the Fire Service in Bedfordshire since 2002.
Richard Fuller, MP for North East Bedfordshire, said:
The untimely death of Paul Fuller, Chief Fire Officer for Bedfordshire, is a great loss and my thoughts are with his wife Helen and the family.
Paul was an exceptional leader and a powerful and effective advocate for the fire service and for the principles of community safety. I met Paul regularly during my time as Member of Parliament and at all times he was open, engaged and fully committed to his role.
He encouraged me to learn more about the fire service and facilitated meetings with firefighters to hear their views directly. Importantly, he excused himself from those meetings so that his presence would not hold back any comment or criticism of his leadership or decisions.
I admired Paul’s service. His dedication to the Fire Service and to the county of Bedfordshire are going to be missed very much.
