Following Richard's participation in the Westminster Hall debate on Luton Airport Expansion earlier this year, Richard and Daisy Cooper, MP for St Albans, have written to the Minister responsible for aviation asking for further consideration of a number of matters raised during the debate:
- Ensuring Luton Airport abides by its obligations on noise mitigation for nearby residents
- Expediting improvements to air space that would considerably improve the lives of constituents
- The compatibility of airport expansion with the government's net zero targets
- The perceived conflict of interest in the current planning application for airport expansion between Luton Council as both the owners of the airport, and the planning authority
Richard Fuller, MP for North East Bedfordshire, said:
We have sent this letter as there was limited time during the parliamentary debate in March for the Minister to fully address all the concerns we raised on behalf of our constituents in relation to the expansion of Luton Airport, in particular regarding the compatibility of ongoing expansion of the Airport with our net zero targets, as well as the conflict of interest around the planning application for expansion as Luton Borough Council owns the land the airport stands on and consequently will benefit from significant rental income.
