Richard was delighted to host the 10th Anniversary of the Schoolreaders in Parliament, a local organisation very close to his heart that does such invaluable work throughout the country thanks to the sterling efforts of their team of volunteers.
Richard Fuller MP said:
1 in 4 primary school children in England fail to reach the expected standard of reading by the age of 11. This leaves them unable to access their secondary education fully, which will have life long consequences.
Schoolreaders recruits, places and supports volunteers to go to local primary schools and provide free, weekly, one-to-one reading support for children, prioritising those most disadvantaged. Schoolreaders volunteers are now providing more than 27,000 children with one-to-one reading sessions each week.
Here’s to the next decade and beyond!
It was great to catch up with Charles and Schoolreaders' Chief Executive, Jane Whitbread, as well as Debbie Chao of the fabulous Buffini Chao Foundation who does so much to support Schoolreaders.
