This week, the second Great British Rail Sale was launched, following the success of the last sale in 2022, offering over a million rail tickets for passengers across Britain at up to 50% off. Passengers can buy tickets between 23rd to 29th January for travel from 30th January to 15th March 2024.
Richard Fuller MP said:
The rail sale will offer passengers significant savings on journeys across England and Wales, as well as on journeys between England and Scotland and get people using the railways.
The government is committed to helping families with the cost of living, and working with industry to offer up to half-price rail tickets will not only boost tourism and encourage sustainable travel but also help connect friends and families across the UK.
The last sale in 2022 previously saw over 1.3 million tickets sold, saving around £7 million for passengers, according to industry estimates.
It was also great news for the railway too. Industry estimates suggest the sale generated over £3 million in additional revenue and helped bring passengers back to rail. The Great British Rail Sale is just one part of how we’re improving the passenger experience, encouraging better value fares and helping to grow revenue on the railways.
This launch follows a significant intervention to cap this year’s rail fare increase at 4.9%, considerably below the 9% July’s retail price index (RPI) figure on which they are historically based.
