Earlier this month, CPRE The countryside charity held an exhibition in Parliament to promote the re-growth of our hedgerows. The exhibition tells the story of the UK hedgerow network’s past, present, and future and captures and celebrate their rightful place in our cultural and natural heritage. Through a series of captivating photographs, and collaboration between a vibrant collective of artists, farmers, historians, and specialists, the exhibition looks at regional styles, the management of hedgerows, the benefits of hedges to farmers, and the role that hedgerows play for wildlife and biodiversity
Richard Fuller MP, who visited the exhibition in Parliament earlier last week, said:
It is good to see CPRE celebrating our hedgerows in Parliament and I am proud to have added my name to the list of Parliamentary 'Hedgerow Heroes' who all support:
- a national target of 40% increase in hedgerow cover by 2050.
- the inclusion of a landscape criterion in the Hedgerow Regulations (1997).
- an ELMs (Environmental Land Management Scheme) that makes healthy hedgerows an attractive option for the agriculture sector.
