During Tuesday's Westminster Hall debate on support for young people with the increased cost of living, Richard responded on behalf of the Government setting out the range of support available to help young people with increased costs. Westminster Hall debates have an important role to play as they enable backbench MPs to raise issues of particular concern to them and for a minister to respond to those concerns.
In his role as Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Richard reiterated the range of measures which have been put in place by the Government to support young people with the increased cost of living. Speaking during the debate, Richard outlined the payment of £1200 being provided to millions of households with lower incomes and the support available through the benefits system, the dedicated plans to help people into work, measures to support students at university, through free school meals and holiday clubs for children and through increased funding to support the mental health of young people.
