Earlier this month, Richard wrote to the Secretary of State for Transport regarding the Chancellor's recent statement on reducing environmental protections on large scale infrastructure projects, including East West Rail.
Richard Fuller MP said:
In my letter to the Transport Secretary, I pointed out that the documents accompanying the recent non-statutory consultation by East West Rail had included multiple references to mitigation measures that were planned regarding biodiversity and environmental protection.
A number of constituents had, not unreasonably, contacted me to ask whether this 'moving of the goalposts' in the Chancellor's speech about the reduction of environmental protections called into question the validity of the recent East West Rail consultation, and undermined some of the fundamental premises that people had based their consultation responses on.
