Last week, Richard spoke during Home Office Questions in the House of Commons about asylum hotels. The exchange with the Minister can be watched at https://youtu.be/Q4JBm4r4osQ.
Speaking after the exchange, Richard Fuller MP said:
I receive many emails raising concerns about illegal immigration levels and the use of hotels to house people who arrive by irregular routes.
The government is currently in legislative “ping pong” with the House of Lords on further measures to curtail illegal immigration, and with the courts on the policy of offshore processing of claims.
In all of this rancour and discontent, I wanted the Minister to know how positive has been the reaction of many residents in Sharnbrook to these challenges. Current policies are not ideal. We do need tougher action to combat the people smugglers and we do need to move away from the use of hotels. But we can do these changes with compassion and the residents of Sharnbrook are showing us the way.
