Last week Richard questioned the Nuclear and Network Minister about the justification of using agricultural land in North East Bedfordshire for a large solar farm as there are limited points of interconnection with the national grid.
Richard's question and the Minister's reply can be watched here at: https://youtu.be/UK2mEvIaPiY?si=0XQp7fvIfTTXdx0Z
Richard Fuller MP said:
Supposedly there are a limited number of connection points and this has been advanced by the developers of a large solar farm in the North East of my constituency as one of the reasons why that particular location is necessary.
I didn’t think the Minister answered the substantive point whether or not the National Grid has a sufficient number of interconnection points for large solar farms and I will be following up with him on this matter. I worry that if there is a lack of interconnection points we will find ourselves in Bedfordshire facing undue pressure to convert farm land to solar because the National Grid at Eaton Socon does appear to be supporting a number of proposals.
