Commenting on the news, Richard Fuller MP said
I am deeply disappointed by the recent decision to approve the planning application for the Furzenhall development in Biggleswade. Alongside our local councillors, I have consistently voiced strong opposition to this project due to the serious concerns it poses for our community’s safety, infrastructure, and environmental standards.
This development, as approved, fails to meet the essential requirements outlined in the Local Plan and neglects the real impact on Biggleswade’s residents. Issues such as unsafe access routes, the dangerous congestion at key junctions like Drove Road/London Road, and inadequate provision for pedestrians and cyclists on Potton Road and Lawrence Road remain unaddressed. These shortcomings disregard the safety and well-being of local families and contravene national and local planning policies designed to protect our community.
Despite our efforts, concerns about the apparent lack of safeguards to support local infrastructure, green spaces, and safety standards remain.
I will continue to advocate for the right kind of development in North Bedfordshire that enhances our communities rather than imposing further strain. I will also work closely with local councillors to monitor the impact of this decision and push for necessary improvements to protect Biggleswade’s unique character and ensure the safety of all its residents.
