Following the appointment of Mel Stride MP as a minister, there is a vacancy to become the next Chair of the Treasury Select Committee. There will be an election by MPs on the 9th November. Announcing his bid to be the next Chair, Richard said:
"Today I entered my nomination in the election for the Chair of the Treasury Select Committee.
The Treasury Select Committee provides powerful oversight of His Majesty's Treasury and matters involving taxation, public expenditure and borrowing; or access to cash and the impact of FinTech on people's lives; or of the consequences of failures in regulation or unchecked financial crimes.
Some years ago, as a member of a Select Commitee, I played a prominent role in the investigation of the collapse of British Home Stores and helped create conditions so that a major gap in pension funding could be closed.
I would hope to bring that same commitment to addressing each issue openly, with diligent, sometimes persistent, questioning of witnesses, to this role whether on matters of policy, implementation or ethics."
