Last year, Richard was pleased to sign the Alzheimer's Research UK pledge to double research funding into dementia - Richard Fuller - North East Bedfordshire | Alzheimer's Research UK (alzheimersresearchuk.org)
The Government’s Challenge on Dementia 2020 contained the commitment to spend £300 million on dementia research over the five years to March 2020. This commitment was delivered a year early with £344 million spent on dementia research over the four years to 31 March 2019 and the 2019 Conservative manifesto included a commitment to double research funding.
Richard said: "The Government is currently working on ways to significantly boost further research on dementia at all stages including medical and care interventions. The delivery of the above funding was good news and we must now strengthen our effort to support research into finding treatments and a cure. With a commitment in the Queen's Speech to bring forward plans for social care reform this year, it is vital that we accelerate research funding. I have asked the Government a number of further questions about plans for the extension of funding for dementia research and will continue to make the case for additional research funding."
