Richard has welcomed the launch of the UK's first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy, which was launch last week by Digital Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) Minister, Chris Philp.
The strategy aims to help strengthen the UK's position as a global science superpower and seize the potential of modern technology to improve people’s lives and solve global challenges such as climate change and public health.
The UK is ranked third in the world for private venture capital investment into AI companies (2019 investment into the UK reached almost £2.5 billion) and home to a third of Europe’s total AI companies. and this strategy aims to strengthen that position building on these three core pillars:
- Investing in and planning for the long term needs of the AI ecosystem to continue our leadership as a science and AI superpower;
- Supporting the transition to an AI-enabled economy, capturing the benefits of innovation in the UK, and ensuring AI benefits all sectors and regions;
- Ensuring the UK gets the national and international governance of AI technologies right to encourage innovation, investment, and protect the public and our fundamental values.
Richard Fuller, MP for North East Bedfordshire said:
AI will impact all of our lives immensely in the years to come and I welcome this ambitious and comprehensive strategy that will ensure we maintain and develop our global leadership.
